What is an ultrasonic transducer


The ultrasonic transducer part is mainly composed of three parts: the transducer, the amplifier (also called the secondary rod, the horn), and the welding head (also called the welding die).


Transducer (TRANSDUCER): The role of the transducer is to convert electrical signals into mechanical vibration signals. There are two main physical effects that can be applied to convert electrical signals into mechanical vibration signals. A: Magnetostrictive effect, B: Inverse effect of piezoelectric effect. Magnetostrictive effect is often used in early ultrasonic applications. Its advantage is that it can make a large power capacity; its disadvantage is that the conversion efficiency is low, the production is difficult, and it is difficult to apply to mass industrial production. And since the invention of Langevin piezoelectric ceramic transducer, it has made the application of piezoelectric effect reverse effect widely used. Piezoelectric ceramic transducers have the advantages of high conversion efficiency and suitable for mass production. The disadvantage is that the power capacity produced is relatively small. Existing ultrasonic machines usually use piezoelectric ceramic transducers. The piezoelectric ceramic transducer is made by using two metal front and rear load blocks to sandwich the piezoelectric ceramic and tightly connected by a screw. The output amplitude of the ordinary transducer is about 10μm.


HORN: The function of the welding head is to make specific plastic parts, which meet the requirements of the shape and processing range of the plastic parts.


The transducers, amplifiers, and welding heads are all designed to be half the wavelength of the working ultrasonic frequency, so their size and shape must be specially designed. Any changes may cause changes in frequency and processing effects. They need to be professionally produced. Depending on the material selected, the size will vary. The materials suitable for ultrasonic transducers, horns and welding heads are: titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, alloy steel, etc. Because ultrasound is constantly vibrating with a high frequency of about 20kHz, the requirements for materials are particularly high, and they are not affordable for ordinary materials
