Automation Ultrasonic Machining

Ultrasonic Machining (USM) also called as ultrasonic vibration machining is a machining process in which material is removed from the surface of a part by low amplitude and high frequency vibration of a tool against surface of material in the presence of abrasive particles.

 

What is Automation Ultrasonic Machining ?

Rotary ultrasonic assisted machining is a mechanical type of non-traditional hybrid machining process that can be used to process a wide variety of new and difficult to machine materials including tough, hard and brittle, ceramics, composites and more. In rotary ultrasonic machining, the basic material removal phenomenon of ultrasonic machining is combined with traditional diamond grinding. removal phenomenon of ultrasonic machining is combined with traditional diamond grinding, resulting in higher material material removal rates, improved hole accuracy and superior surface finish.

The advantages of ultrasonic machining over ordinary machining:

·Virtually any hard and brittle material can be machined.
·Little heat is produced, Low macroscopic cutting force.
·Since the motion of the tool is up-and-down vibration rather than rotation as in traditional machining, the holes cut are not limited to circular shapes but can be any shape. Custom cutter tools can cut complicated shapes.
·Good surface finish and structural integrity is obtained with high efficiency.

Applicable of Automation Ultrasonic Machining

■ For finish machining of a wide range of materials, especially fragile and rigid materials. Milling with rotary milling cutters for machining flat surfaces, grooves, surfaces of various shapes (e.g. splines, gears, threads) and special surfaces of molds and dies.

■ Small cutting force, about 1/3-1/10 of the cutting force of ordinary tools;

■ The cutting temperature is low, and the workpiece is kept at room temperature;

■ No accumulation of chip tumors, small deformation of the workpiece, no burr;

■ Low roughness of cutting surface, close to the theoretical roughness value;

■ "Rigidification" of the processed parts, i.e. compared with ordinary cutting, it is equivalent to the improvement of workpiece rigidity;
