Dr. Rahul Razdan, an interventional radiologist with advanced medical imaging in Lincoln, Nebraska, said ultrasound therapy is a completely “novel method” that uses ultrasound energy to cut and remove damaged, painful tissue, and at the same time Preserve healthy foot tissue.
Razdan, the lead author of the study, said: "Although long-term results studies are ongoing, the results we have seen so far are very promising."
The American Plastic Surgery Foot and Ankle Association describes plantar fasciitis as an essentially "overuse injury" that is caused by inflammation of the tissue band that connects the heel bone to the bottom of the toe.
According to Razdan, standard treatments include painkillers, cortisone shots, icing, heating, massage, silicone arch support, and physical therapy centered on the benefits of controlled stretching.
For some patients, invasive surgery is another option. In this study, Razdan's team tested 65 patients seeking treatment in an interventional radiology clinic in 2013 and 2014.
