Ultrasonic spot welding is widely used in the manufacture of vacuum-sealed blister packs to achieve hermetic sealing and avoid tampering. Most thermoplastics can be spot welded using ultrasound.

A customized sonotrode penetrates the top layer (the thinner of the two parts) and fuse them together. Then, the replaced molten part is trapped in a custom-shaped head on the top spot, and welded at the interface. The diameter of the heading is three times the average of the first layer, that is, the upper part with a thickness of 1 mm will have a raised ring of about 3 mm and a height of up to 1 mm. The bottom will not show any signs of dents or marks.
